An American-Italian-Australian Christmas Eve.
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house – people were lying spreadeagled on the floor or curled up in foetal position in the corner from eating too much dessert. We made a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake, a custard fruit tart with chocolate pastry, chocolate cranberry brownies, and a lemon curd tart.
My little brother felt so ill from overeating he hid in the smallest space he could find.
Our extended family Christmas meal is on Christmas Eve here in Arizona, and all 18 of us get together, eat Stromboli (and all yell sporadically STROMBOLI! STROMBOLI! throughout the evening), my mums Lobster Chowder, and other assorted breads, pastries, cakes, tarts…. This year we had a few extra helping hands in the kitchen, as Nan and Grandpa are over from Australia too. It was lovely having everyone together for Christmas. The house is full of laughter, talking, children and the smell of baking and Christmas trees.
My cousin Ashley got a present with the CUTEST wrapping. I know, I am obsessed with handdrawn foxes. But isn’t this gorgeous?!
My stepdad David got a retro handset for his mobile phone. He bought it, got me to wrap it, and gave it to himself from his brother. We were all a little confused, but he was happy.
Look Ma, I caughts me a wife!
My little brother is, well, not so little anymore. Since I last saw him I am going to say he doubled in height. At least. This is both of them standing flat footed.
The babies of the family were all pretty happy with their presents I think. As soon as Alex opened his globe, he yelled out he had found Australia!
This was the first time I got to meet little Sadie as well – last time I was here was two years ago, and my cousin Kathleen hadn’t even thought of her daughter yet. She is SO cute, always sticking out her tongue. She wasn’t too sure about me (yet!) I don’t think.
Normal shenanigans ensued as always when my brother and I get together. My grandparents are used to it by now, but still think we are a little crazy.
We all stayed up late drinking eggnog, mimosas, and champagne with lemonade. Off to bed, to wake up early for presents!!
